Yesterday, Archbishop Hebda released a number of statements and updates to Mass protocols, calling attention to Gov. Walz’s latest executive mandate concerning the wearing of masks. While decisions regarding safety protocols within Catholic churches are ultimately
within the authority of the diocesan bishop, Catholic tradition teaches that the Church should collaborate with public officials in the service of public health and the common good unless directives are unreasonable, impractical or discriminatory. The Archdiocese does not regard the Governor’s Executive Order to wear face coverings to be any of
these. For the latest helpful document regarding faith-based groups from the Minnesota Department of Health please visit this link.
As such, we must implore you to wear a mask if you are attending any prayer or sacrament here at Saint John's. You can read both the Memorandum and letter from the Archbishop on our website. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
At 5:45 PM tonight (Saturday, July 25), and again at 11:45 AM tomorrow, Sunday, July 26, I will be in the Gathering Space circle ready to distribute Communion to anyone who desires to drive up and receive. If you choose to participate, please remain in your car and I will come to you, or motion you forward as cars process. Detailed information on this process can be found on our website. We plan to continually assess our offerings, in an effort to provide socially safe, sanitized avenues in which to participate in the Eucharist, as well as our parish community.
Next weekend is Food Collection for the Poor. Right now, we have an urgent need for pastas, pasta sauce, shampoo and clothing detergent. Food and household items may be dropped off in the Gathering Space between 8 AM and Noon Monday through Friday, or at the steps of the church before Masses.
We have some updates to our Mass and Confession times coming up next month. On August 10-12, and again August 17-19, Mass and Confession times have changed to accommodate the Totus Tuus and Extreme Faith Camp participants. Confessions will be at 10:45 AM, and Mass at 11:15 AM. Thank you for your understanding as we work toward greater discipleship these important groups of young people.
We have exciting activities coming up in our parish, and our various committees are working diligently to ensure we follow all COVID-19 related protocols, to bring you a safe yet welcoming experience.
